The colorectal cancer team at Peoria Surgical Group, Ltd. is currently planning for the third annual “Ask Me Why I’m Blue” party to recognize our colorectal cancer survivors and their loved ones. March is colorectal cancer awareness month, and it is an important time to spread awareness and show our appreciation.
Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men and women combined in the United States. This means about one in every 20 people will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer. In 2019, it is estimated that there will be 101,420 new colorectal cancer cases.
This year, we are seeking monetary donations for two very important local organizations. CRC Life is a local support group for patients in our area that focuses on disease prevention and screening. The Illinois Cancer Care Foundation supports research, education and awareness. They also offer transportation and holiday assistance to cancer patients in our community. These include providing thanksgiving dinner and supplying presents for young children at Christmas.
